Send SARS a query. Please ensure your details match SARS records.
SARS Whatsapp Channel
Save the SARS WhatsApp number, 0800 11 7277, on your contact list and then commence to contact SARS.
Steps on how to request your tax number:
- Find and select the SARS WhatsApp number saved under the list of your contact details.
- Send a greeting or message.
- Select the tax service menu option to open the menu list.
- Tap on Tax Reference number.
- Complete the requested demographics for authentication purposes.
- Send your ID/Passport Number.
- Retrieve your tax reference number from the Notice of registration (IT150) sent through to your email address.
SARS SMS Channel
Send an SMS to SARS on 47277 from your mobile device.
- TRN (Space) ID number/Passport number/ Asylum Seeker number
SARS USSD Channel
Steps on how to request tax services via the SARS USSD Channel:
- Step 1: Initiate USSD by dialing *134*7277#
- Step 2: Select the service you require
- Step 3: Taxpayer Verification – SARS will request you to complete either your,ID/Passport/Asylum Number
- Step 4: Tax Resolution – Upon successful verification by SARS, a response will be displayed
- You can also request your notice of registration via the MobiApp if you are a registered eFiler.
- You can request the Notice of Registration (IT150) on eFiling under the SARS Registered Details’ menu option.
SARS MobiApp
Download the SARS mobile app from the google play store and login then request your notice of registration (IT150) directly off the app.
Visit a SARS Branch
At a SARS branch. Remember to make an appointment before you visit a branch.
Top Tip: SARS will not provide your tax number to another person, unless the person is your tax practitioner or has power of attorney to conduct your tax affairs.
